Nomination forms available for Civic Club Distinguished Service award, due March 18


The Carrollton Civic Club Distinguished Service Award (DSA) banquet is scheduled for March 24 at Atwood Yacht Club in Dellroy.

Social hour begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Menu includes pan roasted chicken or stuffed shells. Tickets are $30 per person.

Nomination forms are available at McFadden Insurance Agency, 140 Public Square, Carrollton, or from any Civic Club member.

Guest speaker is Frank Cilona, a Stark County sports broadcasting veteran and Sandy Valley High School graduate. An avid sports fan, Cilona has spent over 25 years in broadcasting. He, along with the “Voice of Stark County Sports”, Sam Bourquin, broadcast high school football and basketball games in the Stark County area on Q92 Radio. His past credits include covering Ohio State football, Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers, as well as the Firestone golf tournaments for ESPN radio. He has been a 28-year volunteer for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a driver for the annual induction ceremonies. He currently is an assistant baseball coach for his alma mater, Sandy Valley, as well as a current player in the Ohio Men’s Senior Baseball League.

Cilona was introduced as the new president/CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Canton Region/Greater W. Virginia in 2011. The former board chairman, he served on the board of directors for over six years. He served as the director of sales & marketing at the Courtyard by Marriott Canton.

A lifelong resident of Stark County, Cilona grew up in Waynesburg and attended Sandy Valley High School and The Ohio State University. He is 1987 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing.

Cilona and his wife, Kristine, have two children, Ryan, a junior at The Ohio State University, and Ashley, a freshman at Ohio University. They make their home in Massillon, OH.
