ODNR officials doubt if campsite visitor was a bear

A couple camping near Whispering Pines on SR542 told deputies they were attacked by a bear in the area of Feather Rd. SW, and Magnolia Rd. NW, Dellroy.

Larry Waldon stated a female received a cut on her arm from the approximately 100 lb. bear. They threw a machete at the bear and cut it on the back of the neck before it ran off.

The unidentified woman refused treatment from EMT Ambulance personnel, saying she would go to Mercy Medical Center in a personal vehicle.

According to representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife (DOW), “Our wildlife officer found no evidence that a bear visited the camping site. No bear fur, tracks, scat, or blood was found. Not sure what happened there, but no reason to believe it was a bear.”

The Carroll County Game Warden and Atwood Rangers were also on scene.
