Route 9 motorcycle accident claims life


A motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Baltimore, OH, man remains under investigation.

Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams said his office received numerous 911 calls July 19 at about 2:37 p.m. about a crash on SR 9 north of Carrollton near the intersection of Moccasin Rd.

The motorcycle driver, Peter J. Oesterling, 58, of 12435 Mauger Rd., Baltimore, OH, was seriously injured in the crash and flown by medical helicopter from the scene to Akron General Hospital, where he died. Motorcycle Fatal web

Williams said Oesterling was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle south on SR 9. As he drove up a hill and around a slight curve, the motorcycle went left of center and struck a northbound tire delivery box truck driven by Jared M. Fleming, 26, of 1638 Lake Center St., Uniontown, head-on. The truck is owned by American Tire Distributors of Cleveland.

Oesterling was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. According to Sheriff Williams, speed and alcohol may be involved. Carroll County Deputy Alan Salihovic and the sheriff’s department are investigating.

Personnel from Carroll County and Augusta Twp. fire departments and EMT Ambulance assisted at the scene.

It was the fourth traffic fatality on Carroll County highways this year.
