Shirley Groves Lee, 83

Shirley Groves Lee, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior, May 30, 2018.

Born Aug. 27, 1934, in Richmond, she was a daughter to the late Dean Kenneth and Anna Albaugh Groves.

Shirley was a 1952 graduate from Jefferson Union High School. She married Robert Lee Aug. 18, 1956, after a blind date set up by mutual friends and for nearly 62 years they have been inseparable. Shirley worked for the Edison School District as the school clerk and treasurer before moving to their farm in Richmond, where they raised their daughters and Angus cows.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, she enjoyed her role as a full time homemaker, welcoming family and friends around her kitchen table to enjoy her home cooked meals and desserts with lively conversation. Shirley loved the holidays and any family get together. She would spend hours cooking kids favorites, including her famous caramel corn.

Bob and Shirley moved to Carrollton in 1990 where they participated in Loaves and Fishes and were active members of the Wesley Community Chapel. Any spare time was spent traveling to see their daughters and grandkids. Shirley loved her home and family the most.

She leaves her family to cherish her memories, her two daughters, Cynthia Lattner of Pennsylvania and Rebecca (Ron) Bolze of Chadron, NE; six grandchildren, Nicole (Loren) Root, Amanda (Sean) Hackett, Kyle (Kate) Lattner, Amber (Aaron) Selking, Sadie Bolze and Ashlee Lattner; six great grandchildren; special cousins, Linda Groves of Carrollton, Jeff Groves and Donny Groves Jr.; her “golden son,” David (Julie) Robinson and their sons, Sam and Aaron, of Bloomingdale; and many other cousins.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Don Groves.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, but including: Hospice, the amazing Centerville Village Team, and special friends, Mary Head, Earl Waggoner and Gordon and Barb Warner, who brought happiness with every visit.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 5, at 11 a.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Pastor Gordon Warner and Pastor Lisa Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s name to Community Hospice House Walkway to Peace Seating Memorial, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
