The Carroll County United Way Day of Caring will take place Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with more than 100 volunteers working on projects many nonprofit organizations do not have manpower to complete. Day of Caring is a communitywide day of hands-on volunteering in which United Way joins businesses with local nonprofits and agencies that have projects that may otherwise go uncompleted.

United Way of Greater Stark County announced project assignments for Carroll County United Way Day of Caring. Nonprofits and agencies that submitted projects include Augusta Elementary, Camp Aldersgate, Carroll County Parks District, Carroll County Art Center, Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum, Pathway Caring for Children, and St. John’s Villa. Representatives of Carroll County Health District will be working at St. John’s Villa, 701 Crest St., Carrollton, landscaping flowerbeds and staining the gazebo and a porch. TCB Automation, Chesapeake Energy and RETTEW volunteers will be at the Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum, 3266 Dyewood Rd., SW, Carrollton, painting fencing around the basketball and tennis courts and dorm exteriors, working on trail maintenance and tearing down an outdoor obstacle.
The remaining Chesapeake Energy employees will do general cleaning, tearing down walls of latrines and buildings, removing tile and preparing a building for renovation at Camp Aldersgate, 3276 Dyewood Rd. SW, Carrollton. The Carroll County Park District will benefit from workers at two locations. Workers from Williams will paint, clear brush and invasive plants, do landscaping, gardening, creek erosion control and trail maintenance at Bluebird Park, 190 Alamo Rd. SE, Carrollton.
At Carroll Community Park, 1061 Salineville Rd., Carrollton, representatives for Marathon Petroleum Co. and McJunkin Red Man Corp. will clear brush and invasive plants and work on trail maintenance along with building dugouts. Work for Pathway for Children, 207 Moody Ave., SW, Carrollton, includes cleaning for new office space, cleaning the public space in the building and landscaping. Representatives for Woolpert and TerraStar, Inc. will work on the projects.
Dowell Dental Group will move art displays to prepare for remodeling and remove and dispose of wooden hinged walls at the Carroll County Arts Center, 204 W. Main St., Carrollton. The final project is at Augusta Elementary, 3117 Aurora Rd., NE, Augusta. Employees of Campbell Oil Company/JKR Herron Distributing, Inc. will mulch under playground equipment. Gotch & Co will provide mulch. A complimentary breakfast will be offered to all volunteers at JB Chops at Bluebird Farm Park the morning of the event. The Day of Caring T-shirt sponsor is McJunkin Red Man Corporation. Additional community sponsors (to date) include: Elite Gasfield Services and in-kind sponsors Community Hospice.
