Voters approve county home levy

Carroll County voters favored one of two county-wide tax levies at Tuesday’s general election.

Countians approved a 1.4-mill replacement tax for the benefit of the Carroll Golden Age Retreat (County Home) by a 64.07 percent margin. The unofficial vote was For 8,109; Against 4,547.

However, voters rejected an additional 0.4-mill tax for the maintenance and operation of the Carroll County Health District (Carroll County Health Department) by a 56.95 percent margin. The unofficial tally was For 5,396; Against 7,139.

Village Levy Results

Voters approved all seven village levies, which included five in Magnolia, one for the Minerva Senior Center and one for Sherrodsville’s current expenses.

The five Magnolia levies, which included precincts in both Carroll and Stark Counties, and the unofficial cumulative results are:

– Gas aggregation – Yes 286; No 111 (Carroll – Yes 65; No 39; Stark – Yes 221; No 72)

– Electric aggregation – Yes 288; No 108 (Carroll – Yes 65; No. 41; Stark – Yes 223; No. 67)

– 4-mill police levy – For 313; Against 97 (Carroll – For 75; Against 32; Stark – For 238; Against 65)

– 3.5-mill current expense levy – For 291; Against 115; (Carroll – For 72; Against 36; Stark – For 219; Against 79)

– 2-mill current expense levy – For 291; Against 113; (Carroll For 70; Against 37; Stark – For 221; Against 76)

Minerva voters approved a 0.3-mill tax levy renewal for the benefit of the Minerva Senior Center by a 699-vote margin. The unofficial cumulative vote in the three counties was For 1,100; Against 401 (Carroll – For 492; Against 174; Stark – For 607; Against 227; Columbiana – For 1; Against 0)

Voters in Sherrodsville also favored a 1.9-mill tax levy renewal for current expenses of the village. The unofficial tally was For 83; Against 25.

Township Levy Results

Of the eight township tax levy issues, voters approved requests in Fox, Orange, Perry and Union, but rejected a road levy in Brown Twp. and two tax requests in Rose Twp.

– FOX TWP. – Renewal of 1.5-mill fire levy – For 349; Against 89.

– PERRY TWP. – Replacement of a 0.5-mill tax levy for current expenses – For 257; Against 208.

– PERRY TWP. – Replacement of a 1.0-mill fire levy – For 298; Against 165.

– ROSE TWP. – Replacement of a 2.69-mill levy for roads and bridges – For 220; Against 409.

– ROSE TWP. – Renewal of a 1.0-mill fire levy – For 319; Against 325.

– UNION TWP. – Renewal of a 0.7-mill fire levy – For 378; Against 138.

School Levies

– Sandy Valley Local School District – Renewal of a 4.7-mill operating levy – For 1,966; Against 1,211 (Carroll – For 75; Against 92; Stark – For 1,497; Against 888; Tuscarawas – For 394; Against 231).

– Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District – Renewal of a 1-mill levy for current operating expenses – For 19,554; Against 11,065 (Carroll – For 84; Against 54; Jefferson – For 19,470; Against 10,011).

Fire District Levy Results

– Great Trail Joint Fire District – Renewal of a 2-mill levy for fire protection – For 1,738; Against 906.

– Sandy Creek Joint Fire District Renewal of a 2-mill levy for operating expenses – For 3,165; Against 1,359; (Carroll – For 499; Against 158; Stark – For 1,785; Against 763; Columbiana For 881; Against 438).
